It typically shows some important fluctuations through time and space. Despite being a very crude information (i.e., a scalar quantity) of very complex mechanical stress evolution, understanding these variations could still give us insights into the mechanics of the reservoir. Here, we analyze the output of a simple quasi-static physical model of a single fault and propose a new way to describe bursts that could be compared to seismic events.

Lithium isotopes in island arc geothermal systems: Guadeloupe, Martinique (French West Indies) and experimental approach

We report Li isotopic measurements in seawater derived waters discharged from geothermal wells, thermal and submarine springs located in volcanic island arc areas in Guadeloupe (the Bouillante geothermal field) and Martinique (Lamentin plain and the Diamant areas). The lithium isotopic signatures of the geothermal fluids collected from deep reservoirs are homogeneous for a given site. However, ...

Color Changes Kinetics and Heat Transfer during Deep Fat Frying of Garlic Slice

Heat and mass transfer phenomena that take place during frying cause physicochemical changes, which affect the colour and surface of the fried products. The effect of frying temperature on the colour changes and heat transfer during deep fat frying of garlic has been investigated. The colour scale parameters redness (a*), yellowness (b*) and lightness (L*), and color change intensity (∆E) were ...

Development of Drilling Technology for Deep-seated Geothermal Resources

Concept of the deep-seated geothermal resources Deep-seated geothermal resources is defined as the depth of 3000-4000m at temperature of approximately 350 degrees C. And it is considered that those deep-seated geothermal resources exist below shallow geothermal reservoirs whch already exploited. 580,000 KW. And it is indispensable to explore geothermal resources " to increase it rapidly. In Jap...

Thermal Energy Recovery from Enhanced Geothermal Systems – Evaluating the Potential from Deep, High-temperature Resources

A variety of mechanical, chemical and thermal approaches to reservoir stimulation have been proposed and tested over more than three decades of research on Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technology, with the primary focus at present on enhancing fracture permeability by elevating fluid pressure sufficiently to induce shear failure along pre-existing natural fractures. A critical issue in ass...

The Origin of High-temperature Zones in Vapor-dominated Geothermal Systems

Vapor-dominated geothermal systems are proposed to originate by downward extension (by the "heat pipe" mechanism) into hot dry fractured rock above a large cooling igneous intrusion. High temperature zones found by drilling are shallow parts of the original hot dry rock where the penetration of the vapor reservoir was limited, and hot dry rock may extend under much of these reservoirs. An earli...
